Vidarbha region (Eastern Maharashtra) shares a 400 year old historic and cultural relationship with Pune.

Jijabai, wife of Shahajee-raje was a Vidarbhawasi (Resident of Vidarbha). Jijabai came to Pune and initiated the renovation of settlement in Pune with son Shivaji. She is called the first ‘Vidarbhawasi Pune Niwasi’ (former resident of Vidarbha who lived in Pune).

Till date there are many Vidarbhawasis who have settled in Pune for education or career. They have participated actively in Pune’s social and cultural activities.

Vidarbhawasi Pune Niwasi, a registered organization established on June 6, 2006, is an organization for the former residents of Vidarbha who are currently living in Pune.

Primary purpose of this organization is to build the support for the Vidarbhawasis who have come to Pune for various reasons.

Basic principles and agenda

  • Taking care of overall development of those who have come to Pune for business, service or education.
  • Enriching the social and cultural life of Vidarbhawasis as well as Pune-ites (local Pune residents).
  • Assistance in finding residence, hostels, educational guidance and medical help for newcomers.
  • Conducting cultural activities to showcase talent in Vidarbhawasis.
  • Documentation of art, history and culture of Vidarbha.

Youth cell

Objective- The cell is proposed to provide professional assistance to existing and new youths to guide them in seeking employment /further Studies in and around Pune.

Plan- The cell will collect the personnel information from existing working youth from Vidarbha in the format displayed at counter. Suggestions are solicited for correction if any.
The cell will have responsible individual for each city of Vidarbha. The cell in Pune will have a panel of eminent people from Vidarbha who have already established themselves in various professional fields.

System- Collection of information on youth-: Presently all members are requested to circulate PIF to their known contacts who are presently working/ Studying in Pune with a request to further provide this information to their known contacts.
The identified office bearers of cell in Pune would visit the city and professional colleges, in particular placement cell, available there to propagate the concept of youth cell.

Process- The forms received will be segregated based on the city he / she comes in from, specific professional interest, and guidance required in particular by the individual. The individual responsible for the city will ascertain from the panel of eminent people as who would be right for counseling the candidate.

The office bearers of cell in Pune will be meeting on last Saturday of the month to share information on the activity they have carried out in the month. The next month´s tentative plans also will be discussed in the same meeting. The panel of eminent Viadarbhians will be interacting with the office bearers of cell by e-mails but will have a meeting with cell officers once in three months for any corrective measure in process.

Additional Activities- The PIF also seeks answer to individuals Hobbies and Likings. The data base of such information will be used to create some cultural events or any other informative event for the benefit of all and also for assimilation of members in a better way.

VWPN will offer a platform to such deserving youth to express their skills and thus keep them home away at home, in Pune.

Doctor's cell

VWPN Medical Cell was developed taking in to consideration the large number of Doctors from Vidarbha who have settled in Pune.

First meeting was held 3 years back. Dr. Sanjay Sawarkar, Dr Maya Tulpule and Dr...spoke on Diabetes, its complications, diet and treatment. It is always safe to avail medical facilities from a known doctor from our own region. It was resolved that the members of Doctors Cell will give 10% concession in consultation charges to VWPN members.
